The Armour of Contempt - How exactly did Colonel-Commisar Gaunt and his people not turn traitor while on occupied Gereon? Simple: they shielded their souls w/ the armor of contempt. On Anacreon Sextus, an ancient world w/ structures so massive they could only be monuments to the God-Emperor of Mankind, the Ghosts have to make do w/out Gaunt's leadership while the Archenemy attacks here & there, hideous monsters stalk them at night, and entrepreneurs turn a buck wherever they can. The Tanith First and Only were disbanded, no longer Gaunt's Ghosts, and rolled into the 81st Belladon. The idea that he and his men could return from a Chaos-occupied planet w/out any taint of Chaos is heresy, and the Inquisition is not pleased. His Last Command - Gaunt was gone for so long, he and his men were assumed dead and the mission a failure. Gaunt has to adapt to weapons and enemies he hasn't seen anywhere else, with almost no support, while Chaos space marines nip at their heels. Local conditions are horrific as the planet and populace are bled dry to feed the Archenemy's campaign. Traitor General - Gaunt and comrades infiltrate the Archenemy-occupied planet of Gereon to assassinate the titular character. Don't worry, the rest of the series will wait. If you're not familiar w/ Warhammer 40k, start w/ The Founding. If you read those reviews, you know I'm going to slap 5 stars on the book and slobber all over the author. I already reviewed The Founding and The Saint omnibuses. Where I completely broke down in tears in the film, the book barely had me emoting. There wasn’t such a clichéd ending either. The movie explored Landon and Jamie’s story so much more. Spark’s felt dry in comparison, and the repetition of the phrases ‘by the way’ and ‘hits you right between the eyes’ ended up giving me a headache. I refer to the writing of Beautiful Creatures or Mara Dyer, where the language is practically melodic. I adore Nicholas Spark’s stories, however his narrative style does not match the subject matter. Additionally, I appreciated in the movie how they allowed Jamie to enjoy the climax of the story a little before the ending, it really let the emotion resonate with the viewer – where in the novel the story simply stopped. The religious aspect had been dialled down, which really let the romance shine. Nuisances and extra parts to the modernized storyline had it feeling much more realistic. Where as in the film, each character was developed so much better. I felt the tone of the book it was a little too preachy and Landon’s final decision felt like it was motivated more out of duty than love. While I loved the story of A Walk to Remember, and found it truly touching, my experience with the book was somewhat lacking in comparison to my enjoyment of the film. Shades of bullying and ostracism are outshined by love, faith and identity. “Edge got a bit of a bee in his bonnet to look at these songs and imagine them in a different context.”įast forward to November of last year, and the release of Bono’s memoir, Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.įor the audiobook edition, each chapter came with a snippet of a re-recording of a song that the chapter was named after. “We are playing around with rearranging some of the songs that we have and setting them in a more acoustic environment,” revealed Clayton. Keen-eared U2 fans would have had an inkling of what was in the works via an interview that the band’s bass player Adam Clayton gave to Rocky O’Riordan (aka Cait O’Riordan, former member of The Pogues) in June 2021 on the band’s U2-X Radio platform on the online radio station Sirius XM. Instead (as we now know), they devised a two-pronged creative/commercial assault that was spearheaded, as usual, by the band’s two primary instigators – Edge (aka Dave Evans) and Bono (aka Paul Hewson). Never a rock band to allow the grass to grow even a millimetre under their communal feet, U2 didn’t spend downtime during the pandemic to binge-watch TV shows. It turns out Davis's father disappeared the day before being arrested on bribery charges. In fact, Aza did attend Camp Sphero with Davis after both fifth and sixth grade. They are certain Aza knows Davis from attending camp with him a few years ago. The novel opens with Aza eating lunch with her best friend Daisy Ramirez at school when Daisy and classmate Mychal Turner tell her that Davis Pickett's father has disappeared. Although the novel begins with a mystery, Aza's attempts to solve it are gradually hijacked by her increasingly oppressive thought spirals. In this new novel, sixteen-year-old Aza Holmes attempts to solve the mystery of the missing father of a friend while dealing with her own mental health issues. Turtles All The Way Down is John Green's most recent novel, published six years after his very popular The Fault In Our Stars. It has a Middle Ages historical feel but with magic. I don’t know where this author has been all my life, but I’m very happy to have found a fantasy romance favourite in this reading experience.īitterwood is a high fantasy set in a world with kingdoms, lords, castles, healers, and mages. This one also had some lovely twists and turns before all was said and done-the kind that made me elated and giddy that I hadn’t guessed everything from the beginning. I loved the world-building and the characters, the magic lore and the deep sense of destiny that hung pertinent over the story, finding myself quickly and fully immersed in the royal quest at hand and the two love stories that came to pass between the lead characters. The plot was solid, with a medieval era vibe, weaving the perfect dash of romance in amongst some exciting life or death questing, that involved knights, mages, healers, and TWO fated love pairings that might just have been necessary to save the kingdom! This M/M high fantasy romance delivered on all counts. Thank God the second edition had a cover upgrade, that’s thought number two. Highly underrated, that’s reaction number one. There are these gorgeous moments of intimacy between Sydney and Faith that are intense and poetic and leave you weak. Then Sydney’s brother Eric enters the picture with his new girlfriend, Faith, historian, author, professor who secretly struggles with her Catholic religion and her true self. Extremely wealthy and smart, she seems a shoo-in for the candidacy except that it’s the late 90’s, she’s a woman, and a Lesbian. Over a century later God reiterated this incredible promise to Abraham’s son, Isaac. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing” ( Genesis 12:2). Never had God bestowed such a blessing of honor upon man. God’s promise to Abraham was the first of its kind. As we read about the tribes of Israel in Scripture, God’s redemptive plan for His people is shown through the complicated lives of each of these men of promise. Through the 12 sons of Jacob, that promise became a reality. Through one promise God set into motion a plan that would birth a great nation. |
